Keith Reed, banjo

Originally from Idaho, Keith Reed grew up playing bluegrass banjo and guitar with a close-knit group of local traditional-style players. Keith earned an associate of arts degree from South Plains College, known for its bluegrass program, and he also has a bachelors of arts degree in classical studies and classical guitar performance. Before joining Open Road, he spent several years performing with various bluegrass bands in Idaho and Colorado. Keith's exciting mixture of technical ability, bluegrass fundamentals, and composing creativity reflect both the traditional sound of Open Road and his own distinctive mountain edge. His Scruggs-based banjo playing is true to the roots of this music and earns the respect of bluegrass enthusiasts wherever he performs. Cybergrass internet magazine calls Keith a "versatile musician...his abilities on the banjo are fluid and precise." Keith currently lives in Colorado Springs and has been playing with Open Road since January 2003. He teaches bluegrass and classical guitar and bluegrass banjo at Colorado College.
